Kirk is in the depths of despair as he wails, 'I've lost her Les!' and relates how Tyrone has already got a ring and proposed.

However, Les is of the opinion that if Fiz hasn't already given Tyrone a 'yes' that she may still be wavering and there's still time for Kirk to save the day,

'You've got to get hold of a ring Kirk lad, even if you've got to beg, borrow or steal one!'

Kirk arrives at a jewellers and tells the assistant, 'I'm looking for at least six carat, and at least four of 'em.'

Instead of immediately calling the police and telling them that someone appears to have escaped from the local asylum, she takes out a tray of rings, tells him, 'There is something in there to suit every budget sir'

and goes off to serve another customer.

Unfortunately, Kirk's budget seems to be precisely nought pounds and nought pence so he decides to take advantage of their five finger discount scheme.

He tells the assistant, 'Er....I've decided to leave it thanks.'

She barely looks up and bids him a good day and he makes a very hasty exit indeed.

A distraught Kirk returns home and tells Les, 'I've done something terrible!' His upset state is lost on Les who asks him, 'So did you manage to get a ring?'

Kirk holds the sparkler aloft. Les admires it, 'Didn't they give you a box for it?' Kirk tells him no.

Les enthuses, 'Never mind. Once she claps her eyes on that she's bound to say 'yes' straight away mate.'

Kirk replies, 'Yeh, if she does then it will have all been worth it.'

Fiz mopes in the pub, not even cheering up when Janice and Karen excitedly tells her that Kirk has just walked in with Les & Cilla.

She replies glumly, 'He won't even look at me let alone talk to me.'

Meanwhile, at the bar, Les tells Kirk to stop faffing about, get Fiz and a drink and get over to her with the ring and propose.
